Greene County district court, week ending June 27

In Greene County district court a jury found Conner Laine Groves, 28, of Scranton guilty on charges of fraudulent practice greater than $10,000, arson- second degree, conspiracy to commit arson, fraudulent submission to insurer, and possession of marijuana. The verdict followed a five-day jury trial presided over by the Honorable John Flynn. A sentencing date has not been set.

The charges are in connection with a house fire in Churdan Oct. 2, 2023.

Seth Allen Blumberg, 26, of Grand Junction was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault- simple, amended from assault causing bodily injury or mental illness. The jail term was suspended and he was placed on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. Blumberg was fined $105 with a $15.75 surcharge. He must pay an amount not to exceed $250 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $200 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable James B. McCarville)

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Garrett Matthew Peterson, 25, of Scranton, operating while intoxicated; and Casey Roland Kennedy, 25, of Grand Junction, eluding, speed more than 25 mph over limit, assault while display dangerous weapon, and threat of terrorism.
